Virginia Davis Floyd Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., NOVEMBER 17, 2006 – Virginia Davis Floyd, M.D., M.P.H., a faculty member at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.

“We're very pleased that Dr. Davis Floyd is joining the March of Dimes because she shares our goal to improve the health of babies,'' said Dr. Jennifer L Howse, President of the March of Dimes.

In 2003, Dr. Davis Floyd was appointed as a Visiting Scholar in Traditional Knowledge at Spelman College in Atlanta, where she serves as a faculty member in the SIS (Spelman College Independent Scholars) Program. She is an Associate Professor in Community Health and Preventive Medicine at MSM and also serves as Vice President of PROMETRA International and Executive Director of PROMETRA USA, a nonprofit, U.S.-based organization.

The author of numerous scientific papers, Dr. Davis Floyd is also the recipient of many awards including Spelman's 2005 National Community Service Award; the Friend of Georgia's Children Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics; and  the Phillips Medal from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine.   Dr. Davis Floyd resides in Atlanta with her family.

Elizabeth Roosevelt Johnston Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., NOVEMBER 17, 2006 – Elizabeth Roosevelt Johnston, an attorney with the Hennepin County Attorney's Office in Minneapolis, Minn., and a great-granddaughter of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.

“We're very pleased that Ms. Roosevelt Johnston is following in the footsteps of President Roosevelt, who founded the March of Dimes, and the other members of her family who have given distinguished service to our efforts to save babies,'' said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.

Ms. Roosevelt Johnston also has experience working in public health in the U.S. and overseas. She has a long-standing relationship with Amigos de las Americas, a not-for-profit service organization that partners with local agencies and communities throughout Latin America on health, education and environmental projects. Between 1993 and1998, she served as a volunteer, supervisor, and project director on projects in Ecuador, Honduras, Paraguay and Mexico. She currently serves on the chapter board of directors for Amigos in Minneapolis. 
Ms. Roosevelt Johnston lives in Minneapolis.

Joseph W. Wood Elected to National Board of Trustees of March of Dimes

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., NOVEMBER 17, 2006 – Joseph W. Wood, President of Famous Footwear, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.

“We're very pleased that Mr. Wood is joining the March of Dimes because he shares our goal to improve the health of babies,'' said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.

Mr. Wood, who became president of Famous Footwear in 2002, has more than 20 years of senior management and merchandising experience in the athletic footwear and apparel industry.  Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and General Merchandise Manager for Finish Line; Chief Operating Officer of Just For Feet;  and Senior Vice President and General Merchandise Manager of The Athlete's Foot. 

In 2003, Famous Footwear became a national sponsor of the March of Dimes WalkAmerica after being a local sponsor for 12 years.

Mr. Wood lives with his wife Jane in the Madison, Wisconsin area.

JOSÉ F. CORDERO ELECTED TO NATIONAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF MARCH OF DIMES

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., DECEMBER 6, 2006 – José F. Cordero, M.D., M.P.H., an Assistant Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service, has been elected to the national Board of Trustees of the March of Dimes, it was announced today.

March of Dimes trustees, who serve as volunteers, represent the public in governing the organization and advancing its mission to save babies from birth defects, infant mortality, and premature birth.

“We're very pleased that Dr. Cordero is joining the March of Dimes because he shares our goal to improve the health of babies,'' said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, President of the March of Dimes.

Dr. Cordero is also the Director of the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.  Under Dr. Cordero's leadership, the NCBDDD has grown into a leading research institution for birth defects and developmental disabilities, with expanded programs in autism, prevention of neural tube defects with folic acid, and the addition of a new division on hereditary disorders. Effective Jan. 1, 2007, Dr. Cordero will become dean at the School of Public Health Medical Sciences Campus at the University of Puerto Rico, San Juan.

A native of Puerto Rico, Dr. Cordero has served in the public health field for 26 years and has contributed greatly to the fields of birth defects, developmental disabilities, child health, and immunization.  He is lives in the Atlanta area with his family.
