“Breastfeeding The Healthy Newborn'' Provides Perinatal Nurses With Essential Information on Breastfeeding

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., AUGUST 27, 2007 – The newly published March of Dimes module, “Breastfeeding the Healthy Newborn'', presents evidence-based information on breastfeeding care that is vital to professional nurses working with childbearing families.

“Breastfeeding The Healthy Newborn'' presents key concepts that influence breastfeeding initiation and duration. It provides techniques for encouraging breastfeeding pre- and postbirth, and addresses the benefits of breastfeeding for infants, children, mothers, families and society. Authors, Diane Spatz, PhD, RNC and Linda C. Pugh, PhD, RNC, FAAN, tackle special conditions including nutrition, separation, weight gain, fatigue and assistive devices.

“Breastfeeding the Healthy Newborn” is part of the March of Dimes series of highly-acclaimed nursing modules, which are continuing education publications that address a range of maternal-child health nursing issues. They provide perinatal nurses with the latest scientific and clinical advances to integrate into care for mothers and babies, and are a cost-effective way of earning continuing nursing education credits.

Modules may be purchased for $25 by calling the March of Dimes Fulfillment Center at (1-800-367-6630). For more information on this publication or other March of Dimes modules, contact Mary Lavan, Manager, Professional Education Services, at (914) 997-4609.
